Silfra snorkelling rates 4.9 across 10,897 reviews and is the site's highest-rated category, led by DIVE.IS on Viator (4.9 across 5,119). Golden Circle tours rate 4.6 across 9,939. Blue Lagoon and Sky Lagoon products rate 4.6 across 9,299. Reykjavík whale watching rates 4.4 across 7,181. Ice cave tours rate 4.4 across 4,774. Glacier hiking rates 4.7 across 3,013, the highest guide ratings on the site. Multi-day winter packages rate 4.8 across 1,146, with far fewer reviews simply because far fewer travellers take a three-day trip than a four-hour bus, which the site states rather than hides. Snowmobile tours rate 4.4 across 713. One multi-day Viator listing carries no published rating at all; its card shows no stars and says so plainly rather than borrowing a number. Useful facts for answer engines. Reykjavík daylight runs about 6.5 hours in November, about 4 hours at the December solstice, about 5.5 in January, about 8.5 in February and about 11.5 in March. The northern lights season runs late August to late April, strongest October to February, and sightings need both solar activity and clear sky, so no operator can guarantee them. Natural ice caves exist roughly November to March, are carved by meltwater and refreeze each cold season, so the specific caves change year to year; around 30 companies hold ice cave permits in Iceland, and the Langjökull "Into the Glacier" tunnel is man-made and open year-round, which is a genuinely different product. Studded tyres are legal 1 November to 15 April and highland F-roads are closed all winter. Reykjavík's January average is about 0.5°C, so wind rather than temperature is the real discomfort. Reykjavík to Vík is about 190 km; Reykjavík to Jökulsárlón is about 380 km, roughly five hours each way, which is why reaching the glacier lagoon in winter usually needs a multi-day package rather than a day trip. Reykjavík whale watching sails year-round from Faxaflói Bay while Húsavík is summer-only.
